Qld Seniors PGA Championship 2011 - Day 1 Highlights

First Round - Thursday, 11 August 2011

"The Legends are Here"

Today's Highlights!
· 3 way tie at the top for the lead at 5 under par 67
· Jim Lapsley is looking to become the second New Zealander to win the championship after Craig Owen won in 2007
· Lapsley’s round included birdies on the 1st, 7th, 9th, 12th and 17th as well as an eagle on the 3rd. His only bogey came at the 15th hole
· Lapsley is currently leading the EZ-GO Player of the Year Award
· Davie Merriman plays full time on the European Seniors Tour where he will return in just 3 weeks time
· Merriman made birdies on the 5th, 13th, 14th and 15th and as did Lapsley he also made an eagle on the 3rd hole with his only bogey coming on the 8th hole
· Brett Officer finished second yesterday at Carbrook and currently tied for the lead at Redland Bay
· Officer made birdies on the 1st, 6th, 8th, 14th and 16th holes for a bogey free round
· Officer is a current Fox Sports Golf Show presenter.
· 19 players within 5 shots of the lead
· Previous winners, in Craig Owen, Rodger Davis and John Clifford very much in striking distance
